On A Whim

I spent so much time dithering that I often don't get things that I want to done.
So on the spur of the moment I have decided to post some photos from the last few months.
These are straight from the camera because editing them would mean that I don't post.
Here goes.

Autumn in Southern Flinders Ranges. My first Artist Date

          Dwarf Bougainvillea still flowering.

Gerber also still flowering.

Waiting for this Salvia to reveal its stunning red colour.

Hopefully there will be more to come soon.

What a Birthday! or How to make Mum cry!

It was my birthday on Monday (yes April 1st)

I knew that the family were planning a gift for me.
Certain whispers told me that something was afoot. But as no questions were asked about what I might want I expected a handmade treat.
Well , the table was set and 2 parcels appeared at my place.

Gorgeous Amy asked “Mum can I ask a tiny favour, can you open the larger present first?”
An easy request to grant.

To my delight I found inside 3 hand printed calico bags. They had produced them last time I was in Adelaide

(I have already tweaked one to give it a gusset effect)

The smaller box was a small rectangle like maybe a bracelet box. Little did I suspect that they employed a favourite trick of mine to disguise, a gift by wrapping in a deceivingly sized parcel.

What was inside you ask.
Let me tell you. The most awesome and overwhelming gift- a ticket to the Josh Groban Concert.

I still can’t believe that they have done that for me. To make things even better 4 have bought tickets for themselves so I will be able to enjoy it in fine company.
My response was the expected flood of tears.

I still get teary when I think about it.

My Sewing Room

Last year I was treated with the creation of a sewing room.
We adapted a small room which had had many incarnations but always ended up as a junk room. On a whim I mentioned it would make a great space for me and my wonderful husband set to work

At times it still gathers things that don’t have a place but they get moved on reasonably quickly.

This year I intend to make full use of the area and explore the art of making in its many forms. Satisfying my love of colour and material and threads and buttons and....

One of the best things about it is that I feel like I am still in the midst of everything and not isolated in some dark corner that is visited by few.

Summer Morning

Cooling breeze
Enlivening
Rejuvenating
Preparing for the heat to come

Full of promises
Ripening fruit
Growing vegetables
Needing water
Rewarding many fold for the care

  Beautiful light
Showering the world in softness
Touching the soul
Reviving the heart

Things I am thankful for

In no particular order
My family ~their love and support are what keep me going
~ they each inspire me in their own way
I am in awe of their love, compassion, talents, intelligence

The sunshine today ~even though it is really hot outside
~it is at least not as hot as yesturday

The adventures I have had, particulatly this last year (2012)

And many many more but for today these spring to mind

Challenges

In an effort to help me learn and remember the processes of posting
I have been challenged by one of my daughters, Kathryn, to post
for seven consecutive days.
A challenge is certainly a great motivator to do something.

So here is post number 2

In My Garden

In an effort to become more computer comfortable I am going to blog more.
Today is my new beginning and I have chosen a subject close to my heart-My Garden
Here are some photos I took earlier today of some special beauties.

The Bergonia disappeared after flowering and I just tucked the pot out of the way.
Much later needing a pot for something else I thought that the old begonia pot would be perfect
only to discover that the plant was re-emerging.
Here it is beginning to flower-what a treat.

The Elephant Ear was another 'find'. This time in the garden. They were everywhere and so I neglected them and they disappear.
When they poked their heads back up I placed them in pots. This one just took off and now it is flowering.

Their fragrance is beautifully delicate and floats in the breeze.
